The Network Engineer shares responsibility for all aspects of the firm’s current and future comprehensive communications infrastructure including, but not limited to, hardware and software configuration, deployments, maintenance, and end-user support for Tier-3 engineering issues. Qualified candidates should have extensive knowledge of all aspects of communications systems engineering including, but not limited to, Microsoft Exchange, email archiving solutions such as HP/Autonomy EAS and Enterprise Vault, and Microsoft Lync/Skype for Business. The Network Engineer is a key role in the Enterprise Collaboration team and is expected to be well versed in the different technologies used throughout the team.  This position reports to the Manager, Regional Enterprise Collaboration.


  • Build, configure, and maintain highly available, resilient IT collaboration services (Exchange, Lync, email archival, etc.).
  • Constantly monitor and update existing communications applications to ensure that they are running at peak performance and integrity.
  • Perform capacity-planning studies and take appropriate action to ensure that the communications system can meet future growth and performance requirements.
  • Coordinate with other groups, both within and outside of IT, to ensure the proper and smooth interoperation between communications systems and cross-platform applications.
  • Proactive server and systems monitoring and performance. Complete daily tasks to ensure system stability.
  • Awareness of backup technologies, processes, and controls.
  • Provide 3rd tier support for the firm’s chosen Mobile Device Management Platform.
  • Provide high-level user support functions for communications-related issues, escalating to the IT management team, and Tier-III vendor support in case of critical issues.
  • Author procedural, descriptive, and other types of documentation that may be required.
  • Communicate with vendors as may be required for installation, configuration, support, and purchasing issues.
  • Integrate with the team’s on-call processes and procedures, working on a rotating basis, and respond to after-hours and weekend support calls.

  • Five (5) + years of experience as a full-time IT/exchange engineer.
  • College degree in computer science or related field preferred; Experience may substitute for degree.
  • Experience with the implementation and administration of Microsoft Lync 2010/2013 or Skype for Business.
  • Experience with message archiving solutions (e.g., EAS, Enterprise Vault, or similar).
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Active Directory Services, preferably with experience in cross-forest interoperation.
  • Experience with hardware-based e-mail security boundaries (e.g., Proofpoint, IronPort)
  • Experience with external email security providers (e.g., Mimecast, MessageLabs).
  • Experience in implementing and managing Windows Server 2008 up, including clustering.
  • Experience in server virtualization (expertise in VM ESX is a plus).
  • Working experience with Storage Area Networks and Network Attached Storage.
  • Knowledge of enterprise-class backup and replication systems.
  • Working knowledge of Local and Wide Area Networks, including DNS, firewalls, etc.
  • Familiarity with 3rd-party load balancers (e.g. F5, Kemp)
  • Familiarity with SQL Server 2008 or higher is a plus.
  • Experience in disaster recovery/business continuity planning.
  • Knowledge of systems management and monitoring tools a plus (e.g., SCOM, UCCS).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact with end-users to understand requirements and develop comprehensive solutions that incorporate both technology and business processes.
  • Ability to work in a team, as well as independently, with minimal supervision to achieve work goals.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies as they are incorporated into the system.
  • Constantly monitor and update existing communications applications to ensure that they are running at peak performance and integrity.
